There are places that need no introduction, and Taormina is one of them. Perched high above the Ionian Sea on Sicily’s eastern coast, this ancient town has been captivating travellers, artists, and dreamers for centuries. When Renza and Miriam asked us to photograph their wedding at Atlantis Bay in Taormina, we knew immediately — this would be one of those days where the location itself becomes a character in the story.
We had the pleasure of documenting their celebration on July 27, 2024, a luminous Sicilian summer day that unfolded between the intimate luxury of the Atlantis Bay hotel, the timeless streets of Taormina’s old town, and the lush, dreamlike gardens of Villa Comunale.
Getting Ready at Atlantis Bay: Where the Sea Meets the Cliffs
The Atlantis Bay hotel is not your typical wedding venue — it’s an experience. Carved into the rocky coastline below Taormina, this boutique hotel sits just steps from the turquoise waters of the bay, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, volcanic rock, and the kind of silence that only the sea can provide. The morning light filtered through the windows as Renza prepared for the day, the calm of the coast setting the tone for everything to come.

There’s something magical about getting ready in a place where the sound of the waves becomes the soundtrack to your morning. The hotel’s interiors — warm stone, muted tones, and effortless Mediterranean design — provided the perfect backdrop for those intimate, unhurried moments before the ceremony.
The Ceremony: Vows Above the Ionian Sea
The ceremony took place in the open air, with the Ionian Sea stretching endlessly behind the couple. White roses framed the scene, but the real decoration was the landscape itself — the deep blue of the water, the green of the Mediterranean pines, and the golden Sicilian light that wrapped everything in warmth.

As Renza read her vows, the emotion was palpable — not just between the couple, but among every guest present. This is what a destination wedding in Sicily can offer: a setting so beautiful it amplifies every feeling, every word, every glance.
Portraits in Taormina: Corso Umberto and Villa Comunale
After the ceremony, we took the couple through the heart of Taormina’s old town. Walking along Corso Umberto, the main pedestrian street, feels like stepping into a film set — ancient stone facades, wrought-iron balconies overflowing with bougainvillea, and those sudden openings between buildings that reveal the sea far below. Every corner is a photograph waiting to happen.

The Villa Comunale gardens offered yet another dimension entirely. Originally a private garden created by an English noblewoman in the 19th century, this public park is one of Taormina’s hidden treasures. Towering pines, exotic plants, and ornate Victorian follies create a landscape that feels suspended between an English garden and a tropical paradise — all with the most extraordinary views of the coastline, Isola Bella, and the distant silhouette of Mount Etna.

As wedding photographers, we’ve worked in many stunning locations across Italy and beyond, but Taormina has a quality that’s hard to put into words. It’s the way the light changes as the afternoon deepens — turning the stone walls honey-gold, painting the sea in shades of cobalt and silver. It’s the scent of jasmine and salt in the air. It’s the feeling that this town, balanced between mountain and sea, was made for moments exactly like these.

The Reception: Dancing Under the Stars at Atlantis Bay
As night fell, the celebration moved to the waterfront terrace of Atlantis Bay. The hotel’s outdoor reception area, framed by tall palms and the soft glow of string lights, transforms into something truly cinematic after dark. With the sea just metres away and the lights of the coastline twinkling in the distance, the atmosphere was pure Mediterranean magic.

The party was joyful, unrestrained, and utterly alive. But the highlight of the evening — the moment that will stay with us — was the fireworks display over the bay. Standing at the water’s edge, with explosions of gold and silver reflected in the dark Ionian Sea, Renza and Miriam watched the sky light up. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day — or rather, the perfect Sicilian exclamation mark.

Why Atlantis Bay and Taormina for a Destination Wedding
If you’re considering a destination wedding in Sicily, Taormina should be at the very top of your list. The combination of ancient history, dramatic natural beauty, and world-class hospitality is simply unmatched. And Atlantis Bay, nestled into the cliffs below the town, offers something rare — an intimate, almost secret venue where the Mediterranean is not just a backdrop, but a constant, living presence.
From the turquoise cove where the hotel meets the sea, to the sweeping panoramas from the public gardens above, to the buzzing energy of Corso Umberto at sunset — Taormina gives you everything. Every season of light, every texture of stone and water, every fragrance carried on the breeze from the lemon groves and the open sea.
As wedding photographers in Taormina, we can say with certainty: this is one of those places that doesn’t just host a wedding — it elevates it. Renza and Miriam’s day was proof of that. The location didn’t compete with their love story; it became part of it.
